The Challenge of Brazil's Largest 100% Renewable Energy Company

ENGIE Brasil Energia, Brazil's largest 100% renewable energy company faced a major challenge: improving the collection and calculation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its suppliers, responsible for nearly 80% of total emissions.

With the goal of engaging the supply chain to take on decarbonization commitments, ENGIE launched, in 2024 the Supplier Decarbonization Program focused on those suppliers that, together, account for more than 90% of its supply chain emissions.

How Descarbonize Helped Organize ENGIE's Supply Chain Data

One of the Program's pillars consists of collecting GHG inventory data from target suppliers a challenging task considering the different maturity levels of suppliers and, in many cases, the absence of inventories. Supporting the individual development of these inventories would require significant time and effort.

It was in this context that Descarbonize entered the scene, offering a complete solution: software + consultative support. All target suppliers who chose to use Descarbonize went through a structured onboarding process, with direct support from the Descarbonize team, ensuring information standardization and facilitating data entry into the platform.

The result was a centralized dashboard, where ENGIE could visualize and monitor its supply chain emissions in a clear, organized, and real-time manner.

With structured data from 27 suppliers on the platform - representing 70% of supply chain emissions in 2024 -, ENGIE not only optimized its emissions management but was also internationally recognized

The Supplier Decarbonization Program was awarded by the UN Global Compact - Brazil Network, in the Climate Guardians category as an example of innovation, environmental responsibility, and implementation of concrete decarbonization and climate action practices.

At the national level, the Program was highlighted in 2025 at the 31st Expression Ecology Award, in the Environmental Management category.

Both recognitions reinforce both Descarbonize's effectiveness in supporting indirect emissions management in the organization and ENGIE Brasil Energia's commitment to an increasingly sustainable value chain.
